All Entrants should meet at the corner of N. Second Street and Strasburg Street

(by the Water Tower) between 2:15 and 2:45 p.m.

The Parade begins at 3 p.m.

It is a 1 mile route.

There will be NO judging of entries or prizes given.

Directions:  On Route 32, turn West on to N. Second Street (by York Bin Company). Go 2 blocks and there will be someone giving more directions/information.

The parade route begins at the northwest corner of town by water tower then goes south on Elizabeth to Franklin, East on Franklin (crossing Route 32) to Spruce, North on Spruce to Commercial and west on Commercial to fire department. Disband north of Fire Department at Grace Church.

Contact Jodie Quast 644-3093 to pre-register. The Grand Marshall will be Retired Strasburg Volunteer Fire Chief Larry Giertz accompanied by his wife Jane.  Registration form can be found at www.strasburgil.com

Strasburg Strongman event is a success despite the weather

While Mother Nature was fierce in the early morning hours of the day of the 2nd Annual Strongman and Strongwoman competition in Strasburg, she stopped in just enough time to let a group of mere humans show they can also be pretty tough.
After about 5 inches of rain hit the village in just a few hours, much of the Strasburg Homecoming events, such as the band and the tractor pull, had to be rescheduled. However, the Strongman and Woman competition and 5K run/walk went on as planned.
A large group of spectators enjoyed what turned out to be a nice day after the rain and watched the competitors vie in a Farmer’s Carry, Fire Truck Harness Pull, Tractor Tire Flips, and Atlas Stone Lift.

Winners were awarded a prize pack from GNC, membership to The Gym in Strasburg and more – and, of course, the Title of Strasburg’s Strongest Woman and Man!  The Strasburg Lions also sold food to add to the festivities. All proceeds from the event support the Strasburg Lions Club. Clark wins Junior Miss Strasburg and Locke Miss Strasburg

Hardworking young ladies in Strasburg raised more than $5,000 for the community in the third annual Miss Strasburg pageant and second annual Junior Miss Strasburg pageant . Sarah Locke, 17, Strasburg, daughter of Scott and Natalie Locke was crowned Miss Strasburg and Marcail Clark, 15, Strasburg, daughter of Jack and Pam Clark was crowned Junior. Miss Strasburg.  In the Junior. Miss 1st runner up was Hannah Schumacher, 13, Strasburg, daughter of Gary and Julia Schumacher.

Retiring queens were, Baylee Quast, 17, Miss Strasburg, daughter of Jodie and Doug Quast, and  Olivia Telgmann, 14, Junior Miss Strasburg, daughter of Kim and Don Telgmann.

The event will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg and in conjunction with the village’s Hog Roast on Aug. 31.  Other contestants were as follows:

Strasburg Volunteer Firemen recently honored at the Strasburg Hog Roast

Several Strasburg Volunteer Firemen were recently honored at the Strasburg Hog Roast/Gnome Fest. Board Trustee John Beldon commended the group for giving of their time and effort to respond to a fire call.

All received a certificate for their years of loyal and dedicated service. Those who served more than 10 years on the department were also presented with “Years of Service” pins.  Receiving pins were Donnie Wallace, 45 years plus, Charlie Culver, 40 years, Larry Giertz, 35 years, Bob Neathery, 35 years, Brad Friese, 30 years plus, Jane Giertz, 25 years, John Jeisy 30 years, Brad Mathis, 25 years, Tom Newell, 25 years plus, Rick Wallace, 25 years plus, Kevin Mathis, 10 years plus and Twila Faletic, 10 years.  New members included Barry Wittenberg, Darrin Storm and Nick Esslinger.

The Strasburg Volunteer Firemen meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.  If anyone is interested in joining, please contact Chief Larry Giertz at 217.644.3044.
